This paper is based on a detailed analysis of corruption as a damaging occurrence in the economy. The first is to explain what corruption is and what corruption activities are. Then we describe the occurrence types as well as the forms. It is commonly known that corruption has a negative impact on economic and social development. To what extent and what exactly is the most affected by corruption will be described in the paper as well. In order to be able to influence corruption, it is necessary to measure it in order to create an approximate picture of how much it is present in the country. For this reason, there are numerous institutions conducting research on the perception of the presence of corruption. The conducted research provides studies that show how Republic of Croatia compares to other countries based on the presence of corruption. Since Republic of Croatia is a highly corrupt country, it is constantly engaged in strategic thinking, advancement and implementation of the anti-corruption systems. Current strategy in force is the "Strategy for the Suppression of Corruption for the period of 2015 to 2020". What its aims are and how it’s supposed to achieve the suppression of corruption will be described in the work. Every country is aware of the importance of suppressing corruption and strengthening social awareness of the dangers of its occurrence, but it is a lengthy and difficult process involving the government and all citizens alike. Discovery and suppression of corruption is an indicator of the effectiveness of anti-corruption policies. In Republic of Croatia the biggest problem is the insufficient implementation of anti-corruption polices and it has to be addressed.
