The influence of red deer on forest habitats of Moslavačka Mountain was researched in the area of the hunting ground VII/15 „Zapadna Garjevica“. Research was carried out between April and end of September, 2012, on 535.34 ha surface area, at identical localities as the previous research done 24 year ago, in 1988. All of undamaged and damaged trees had been recorded, which were divided into categories of small damaged, medium and highly damaged, depending on damage type. Rumen content from shot red deer game was analysed, as well as chemical content of bark of the European hornbeam. Total of 198.271 trees classified into 13 dendroflora species were recorded, 76.2% of which was undamaged and 23.8% was damaged. Small damage intensity was found in 4.1% trees, medium in 4.7% and heavy damage in 15.0%. The most exposed to influence from red deer were those tree species having smooth bark and lower diameter at breast height, while the damage intensity decreased with higher diameter at breast height which is related to higher tree age. European hornbeam makes 26.8% of total researched trees and is the most exposed to damages by red deer. Total damage intensity of the European hornbeam amounts 15.0% or 56 trees per hectare, with the most damaged trees having diameter at breast height from 10.0 to 14.9 cm. Total tree damage in the forest habitats of Moslavačka Mountain decreased by 0.8% compared to condition determined in 1988. Seasonal diet spectrum of red deer depends on natural food source. During the winter it feed by bark stripping and browsing leaves, buds and small twigs, thus making damages on trees. Increase in population size, as well as population density of red deer during 24-year period, from 1988 to 2012, did not disturbed regular development and stability of the forest habitats of the Moslavačka Mountain. Integration of measures in forest and hunting management improves forest benefit functions and contributes to conservation of the forest ecosystems.
