Abstract	Cilj ovoga rada je upoznati se s uzgojnim metodama i programima, na koji se način provode te kako se koriste u selekciji domaćih ţivotinja. Uzgoj ţivotinja uključuje selektivni uzgoj domaćih ţivotinja s namjerom poboljšanja poţeljnih (i nasljednih) kvaliteta u sljedećoj generaciji. Prirodna selekcija je proces u kojem ţivotinje koje su bolje prilagoĎene svom okolišu imaju veće izglede za preţivljavanjem i veći broj potomaka od ţivotinja koje su manje prilagoĎene svom okolišu. Stoga se moţe zaključiti da će sljedeća generacija, u prosjeku, biti više prilagoĎena nego trenutna generacija. Selekcija se odnosi na proces odabira roditelja koji će proizvesti sljedeću generaciju, dok se sustav sparivanja odnosi na metode uzgoja odabranih jedinki te tako o odabiru jedinki ovisi kako će se roditeljski aleli kombinirati unutar potomaka. S obzirom na to trebamo voditi računa o svojstvima koja ţelimo poboljšati, svojstvima koja ne ţelimo pogoršati, postotku inbridinga te ciljevima sparivanja. Pod pojmom uzgojne metode podrazumijeva se unaprijed odreĎeno i smišljeno parenje unutar ili izmeĎu pasmina. Parenje unutar pripadnika iste pasmine naziva se uzgoj u čistoj pasmini, a parenje izmeĎu pripadnika različitih pasmina naziva se kriţanje.
Abstract (english)	The aim of this paper is to familiarize with breeding methods and programs, how they are implemented and how they are used in the selection of domestic animals. Animal breeding includes selective breeding of domestic animals with purpose of improving desirable (and hereditary) qualities in future generations. Natural selection is a process in which animals that are better adjusted to their environment make bigger changes in order to survive and produce more offspring than less adapted animals. The next generation will then, on average, be more adjusted than the current generation. Selection refers to the process of selecting parents that will create the next generation, while the mating system refers to methods of breeding selected individuals. Thus, the selection of individuals depends on how parental alleles will be combined within the offspring. Considering that, we need to take into account the properties that need improvement, the properties that should not deteriorate, the percentage of inbreeding and the mating goals. The term breeding method refers to a predetermined and deliberate mating within or between breeds. Mating within members of the same breed is called purebred breeding, while mating between members of different breeds is called crossbreeding.
