Abstract
USTROJ STUDIJE. Retrospektivno istraživanje. ISPITANICI I METODE.

OBJECTIVES. This research aimed to determinee which subjects are the best predictors of overall academic success at the Medical Faculty of Osijek. The goal was to determine which subjects had the most positive correlation with the GPA. STUDY DESIGN.Retrospective study. PARTICIPANTS AND METHODS. The subjects were students who were educated at the Faculty of Medicine Osijek between the academic years of 1998. and 2011. .The data was analyzed based on the students’ archive charts, and they included: gender, date of birth, high school GPA, results of the admission tests, the date of admission and the overall faculty GPA. RESULTS. The results show that out of 405 enrolled students 65,2% (264) were female and 34,8% (141) were mal. 56,8% of the students went to school for 6 years while 43,2% went to school for 7 years or more. The average GPA at the end of the education was 3,83. There was no statistical difference between male (3,77) and female (3,83) students (p=0.123). The Medical faculty admission test correlated positively with the overall graduate GPA(r=0,462; p<0,001). High school GPA also positively correlated with the graduate GPA (r=0,397; p<0,001). The length of the educational period negatively correlated with the overall graduate GPA (r=-0,499; p<0,001). The most significant predictors of academic success were the courses of Biology (β 0,133), Patophysiology (β 0,095), Physical Medicine (β 0,092), History of Medicine (β 0,087) CONCLUSION. Academic success in high school and the medical school admission test has a high positive correlation with the academic success on the Medical faculty os Osijek.
