Abstract
Nacrt studije. Retrospektivna studija. Ispitanici i metode.

Title. The frequency of self-harm behaviour among adolescents treated at the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry with Daily Hospital treatment from 2010 to 2016 and relevance according to age and sex. Objectives. To determine the prevalence of deliberate self-harm in adolescents and the effect of its risk factors such as age, sex, school grades, socioeconomic status and so forth. Study design. Retrospective study. Participants and methods. Data was collected from the medical records of 105 adolescents aged 11 – 19 who were hospitalised at the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry with Daily Hospital treatment because of self-injurious behaviour from January 1st 2010 to December 31st 2015. Results. Out of all patients, 80 % were females. Median age was 15. Self-cutting (scalpel, shards of glass, razor blades, compass) was the most common way of inflicting injuries to one’s self (86.7 %). Families in poor financial situation comprised only 13.6 %. There is a statistically significant correlation between alcohol consumption and frequency of self-harm. Other risk factors proved statistically insignificant. Most comorbidities are conduct disorders. Conclusion. Female sex is four times more prevalent in this sample of in-patient population although there was not statistically significant difference in DSH between sexes. Self-injurious behaviour is becoming more common and this statement is confirmed by the doubling number of adolescents hospitalised during 2015. So, to stop this trend, it is imperative that quality prevention measures are introduced.
