Abstract
Da bismo bolje razumjeli i predvidjeli stvarni svijet, koristimo se matematičkim modelima. Matematički modeli koriste matematiku kako bi opisali određeni sustav ili pojavu. Proces kreiranja takvog modela nazivamo matematičko modeliranje. Budući da je stvarnost kompleksna, prilikom izrade modela često moramo birati koja ćemo svojstva u modelu proučavati a koja jednostavno izostaviti. U ovom diplomskom radu proučavali smo funkcije dviju i više varijabli. Fokusirali smo se na karakteristike, grafičke prikaze i primjene ovih funkcija u modeliranju. U poglavlju posvećenom funkcijama dviju varijabli, detaljno smo analizirali domene tih funkcija te njihove grafičke reprezentacije. U tom kontekstu, istražili smo četiri ključne grafičke strukture: paraboloid, stožac, sferu i sedlastu plohu, pružajući pripadajuće matematičke objašnjenja i ilustracije. Zatim smo se posvetili modeliranju pomoću funkcija dviju varijabli, demonstrirajući kroz konkretne primjere kako se te funkcije mogu primijeniti u praksi. Zadnji dio rada odnosio se na funkcije više varijabli i matematičko modeliranje pomoću funkcija triju varijabli.
Abstract (english)
To better understand and predict the real world, we use mathematical models. Mathematical models employ mathematics to describe a particular system or phenomenon. The process of creating such a model is called mathematical modeling. Since reality is complex, when creating a model, we often have to choose which properties to study in the model and which to simply omit. In this thesis, we studied functions of two or more variables. We focused on the characteristics, graphical representations, and applications of these functions in modeling. In the chapter dedicated to functions of two variables, we thoroughly analyzed the domains of these functions and their graphical representations. In this context, we explored four key graphical structures: the paraboloid, cone, sphere, and saddle surface, providing corresponding mathematical explanations and illustrations. We then turned to modeling using functions of two variables, demonstrating through specific examples how these functions can be applied in practice. The last part of the work pertained to functions of multiple variables and mathematical modeling using functions of three variables.
