Abstract (english) The aim of this graduate thesis is to explain how the internet and social networks affect existing ones and create new religious communities, what is changing in online / offline religion and which are new spiritual authorities that people turn to. Also, the idea was to explain what mediatization is, what is mediatization of religion, does it affect religion and how it changes it, in which way are created religious communities, and how they change existing ones. The paper presents a historical review of religious communities, from the first remarks to today's current topics on social networks. Everyday, new religious communities are formed and have a couple of thousand followers. Some of them are precisely the result of the mediatization of religion, which is explained as a process in which media influences, shapes and changes religion, and the notion of meditatization can be associated with the popularization of a particular area of our everyday life through the media that constantly surrounds us. Constant exposure to various media shapes our view of the many areas of our lifes and even religions. It is strange how medias affect on our opinion on different communities – on some we create positive thinking, while on some we have negative opinions and even phobias. From the numerous articles, papers and books that have been dealt with for this work, the conclusion would be that the media greatly influence the personal choice of religion. Apart from representing it in a completely subjective way, they rarely find themselves in the co-operation with different religions. Mediatization of religion is a positive thing, and as one of the processes of globalization it should bring religion closer together and enable individuals to participate in the formation of the same.
