Uz to u radu se povezuje teorija s primjenom i testiranjem primjenjivosti teorijskih saznanja u praksi koristeći prethodno stečeno iskustvo autorice u radu s volonterima.
Abstract (english) The aim of this paper is to show the growth of volunteerism in Croatia and give a wider picture on volunteering and related subjects. Additionally the paper merges theory with practice and tests the appliance of theory in practice based on the authors experience working with volunteers. Emphasis is put on the economical meaning of volunteerism and its benefits. The results of the research conducted through a survey about the stance of the respondents towards volunteering are presented in the paper. One thousand and six people across Croatia were surveyed. The survey includes basic information about the respondents: their age, sex, whereabouts, work position and familiarity with volunteering. They expressed their stance towards volunteering in general, are they volunteering and how much is volunteering useful to them. Besides that the survey contains clams regarding organizers of volunteering, their approach towards making a volunteer network and their relation with volunteers in general. The paper tries to define what it means to be a volunteer, the importance of volunteerism for the narrower and broader local community and the community as a whole. The survey shows results that are mostly in favor of promotion and further development of volunteerism, it gives valuable information essential for the betterment of volunteerism in Croatia and acknowledges the merit of volunteering for the individual and the environment. It also shows the necessity to give more attention to the economic importance of volunteering to raise awareness of the same and thus Croatia as a country in which volunteerism is recognized should work towards branding itself as an European country that encourages the work of the civil society.
