Earthquakes as natural phenomena undeniably affect people's daily lives by suddenly releasing energy accumulated in the Earth's crust and upper mantle. The Mediterranean area is characterized by permanent seismic activity. This paper deals with the problem of seismic load on bridges for a specific case of a pedestrian bridge over the river Drava in Osijek. The theoretical part describes the nature of earthquakes and their occurrence in space and time - from the formation and theory of tectonic plates, the parameters used in their quantification to registration. A description of the propagation of seismic waves is given and the method of measuring vibrations is shown. The effects of earthquakes are investigated by microseismic methods that use records of soil vibrations using seismographs and macroseismic methods that are qualitative in nature. The second part of the paper gives an overview of the engineering approach to earthquake engineering. It describes seismic load modeling, structural modeling and gives an overview of mathematical models and methods of analysis. The next chapter presents the concept of seismic analysis from the aspect of dynamic parameters without which the understanding of seismic actions would not be possible - interdependence of stiffness, mass, damping and ductility. The last part of the theoretical basis of the paper deals with the load and assignment of seismic load through European standards. In particular, an overview of seismic analysis for bridges and viaducts, the basic tone method and nonlinear dynamic time - history analysis is given. The practical part of this paper consists of the presentation of geometric and material characteristics of a given bridge, description of model construction in software, seismic load modeling by assigning seven real earthquakes to the structure and presentation of analysis results and their comparison. Based on these results obtained with the Autodesk Robot Structural Analysis Professional 2022 software package, certain conclusions were drawn.
