Abstract

Social competence and social intelligence is increasingly becoming a subject of study and interest. It is defined as the efficient functioning in the social context. Being socially competent is extremely important to satisfy our needs for closeness and human relations, but also in order not to hurt the interlocutor, no matter how delicate is something we have to say.The aim of this study was to examine the competence of students in collaborative activities and to enhance cooperative relationships in the classroom with a focus on developing positive self-image and non-violent conflict resolutions. In achieving this goal was used research methods case studie and sociometry. The case were students of 4th B grade of elementary school Josipovac. Research was conducted through five educational workshops: My positive qualities, The language of snake and giraffe, Cooperation why is it important?, Nonverbal cooperation and Together we are stronger. Research results shows that students are willing to cooperate with students of the opposite sex, they show the basic rules of cooperative behavior, but also, there is room for improvement, particulary for those individuals who need more confidence to be more active in the group. There is also an everpresent problem of undeveloped skills for constructive conflict resolution. Furthermore, educational workshops proved to be a good way to enhance cooperative behavior and the relationships among students.
