Abstract

Parallel abstract (English)
Childs development in his own family sometimes is put into jeopardy, in such a case these children will be referred to accommodations where grown-up persons will take the responsibility to care for and look after them. The social welfare centre, in accordance with the best interests of the child, makes the decision about the form of accommodation and the selection of institution or foster family. Studies of different authors, as well as the research presented in this paper show the advantage of foster family accommodation for such children since the family environment is natural for the proper growth and development of children. The goal of this research is to explore the most appropriate alternative form of care for children without appropriate parental care. Five female teachers, two female school principals, two female psychologists from primary schools in Slatina, two female social workers and a psychologist from the Social Welfare Centre in Slatina as well as three female foster carers from Slatina participated in this research. The guided interview method was applied in this research. For every occupation was used different adequate protocol interviewing. Thirteen foster carers (eight plus five relative foster carers) consider that foster care is the most appropriate form of care for children while institutional care is most suitable for handicapped and children with certain disabilities who need professional help and treatment.
