Abstract

Parallel abstract (English)
The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between disordered eating habits, perceptions of parents and bodily shame and to examine the ability to predict disordered eating habits based on the perceptions of parents and bodily shame. The study included 322 participants from Croatia. The results indicate a significant correlation between bodily shame, perception of mother and disordered eating patterns. There was no correlation between disordered eating habits and the parents' perception. Multiple regression analysis and the inclusion of additional variables included in research revealed that body shame and dedication to diet to maintain body weight were significant positive predictors of disordered eating habits. The research placed the importance on the issue of insufficient research on bodily shame and its connection with the family dynamics and disordered eating patterns. In addition, it stressed the importance of preventing disordered eating patterns as a form of health risk behavior.
