The tourism sector makes up a significant part of the economy of the Republic of Croatia and many countries in the region. At the end of 2019, the position of tourism at the world level changed drastically due to the emergence of the coronavirus pandemic, triggered by restrictive measures and restrictions on the movement of the population. The final paper provides an overview of quantitative secondary data from the field of tourism at different perspectives national, European, and global. In the theoretical part, the concept of tourism and its historical stages of development, the position of tourism in the economy, and the atmosphere of tourism during the pandemic year are explained. In the practical part of the research the economic data for the tourism sector used in the available databases of national, European, and world institutions are presented. An important feature of secondary data is the comparability of different countries and regions, and with the help of global data analysis, the data can be put into context and thus interpreted more meaningfully. In the second part of the practical research, selected indicators of sustainability that are directly and indirectly related to the tourism sector are presented. The purpose of the final paper is to find one piece of data and economic indicators that describe the movement of economic indicators in the field of tourism to understand the complex influencing factors on tourism and determine the assessment of the position of tourism. The goal of the work is to present the separated secondary data to understand the identification of the position of tourism, determining the positive and negative features of the sector, and reflecting on the potential of the tourism sector and its connection with sustainable development and global progress.
