The creative industry is connected with the development of urban centers because, on the one hand, creative cities are the initiators of the creative industry, and on the other hand, a developed creative industry contributes to the economic and cultural life of urban areas. Creative cities are example of the implementation of various multidisciplinary projects regularly based on the application of modern technology and sectoral cooperation of stakeholders in the creative industry. Changes in cities conditioned by the application of technological and creative achievements direct cities towards the phenomenon of smart cities. The paper presents cities as centers of creative workforce and smart European capitals as examples of cities competing in their creative achievements. The methodology used in paper is aimed at determining two types of indicators - indicators of creative industry of the European Union and indicators of creative cities of the European Union. The determined indicators were analyzed using the methods of descriptive statistics and the use of relative numbers. Examples of good practice were analyzed - smart European capitals that have been awarded in the European Union since 2018. This is an initiative of the European Union which encourages cities to carry out their own creative projects established through the sustainable application of modern technology while preserving cultural heritage in order to achieve economic progress and thereby improve the quality of life. In conclusion, models of application and revival of multidisciplinary projects are commented on, as well as the possibility of them bringing recognition to cities while preserving cultural identity and encouraging creative business that makes cities desirable places to live and work.
