Entrepreneurship has been present in human activities and society for centuries. The term was first defined in the 18th century, but over time, researchers became increasingly interested in this discipline and began to appear different interpretations, or definitions of entrepreneurship and related forms. It was quickly established that it is a complex concept, and that there is no universal definition that would fully describe it: it is a phenomenon that is easily recognized but differently defined by everyone. For a more complete understanding of entrepreneurship is not enough just an economic approach, but it is necessary to reach for psychological and sociological concepts, which emphasize the importance of personal characteristics and social institutions in understanding entrepreneurs as persons and entrepreneurship as a function. The purpose of the paper is to present entrepreneurship through the prism of different methodological approaches, and to describe how the authors of modern age have adapted entrepreneurship so that it corresponds to the premises of modern economics. The objectives of the paper is: (I) to describe the emergence and development of entrepreneurship through the thinking of traditional and modern authors; (II) define entrepreneurship with a focus on economic, behavioral and sociological approaches and (III) explain how global economic change has developed the need for new forms of entrepreneurship. Although many have contributed to the understanding of the term, the universal definition still does not exist which makes entrepreneurship a true phenomenon with issues that continue to capture the attention of the academic community. With the development of the economy and society and the globalization marked by intense changes, various forms of entrepreneurship have emerged in response to the challenges that global pressures bring to individuals, economies and societies. So today we are talking about women's entrepreneurship, ethnic entrepreneurship, youth entrepreneurship, etc. In this thesis, social entrepreneurship was chosen as a (entrepreneurial) response to change.
