Abstract
Cigaretni dim kompleksna je mješavina koja se sastoji od preko 4700 kemijskih komponenti što uključuje i slobodne radikale.Neravnoteža oksidansa i antioksidansa uzrokovana cigaretnim dimom može rezultirati oštećenjem stanica pluća. Među raznolikim stanicama koje grade pluća epitelne stanice alveolarnih struktura glavna su meta oksidativnog stresa uzrokovanog cigaretnim dimom. Potiskivanje proliferacije stanica, jednolančani lomovi na molekuli DNA, poremećaji u aktivnosti enzima odgovornih za popravak molekule DNA (kao što je na primjer poli (ADP-riboza) polimeraza) samo su neke od posljedica oksidativnog stresa uzrokovanog cigaretnim dimom.

Cigarette smoke is a complex mixture of more than 4700 chemical components, which include free radicals. Inbalance ofoxidants and antioxidants caused by cigarette smoke can result in lung cells damage. Among different types of cells the lungs consists of alveolar epithelial lung cells that are the main target of oxidative stress caused by cigarette smoke. Decrease incell proliferation, single strand DNA breaks, impared enzyme function (such as poly (ADP ribose) polymeraze) are onlysome of the effects of oxidative stress induced by cigarette smoke.
