Abstract
Vrsta Tribolium castaneum (Herbst), kestenjasti brašnar, predstavlja jednog od najĉešćih uzroĉnika štete u skladištima ţitarica i njihovih preraĊevina. Infestacija prehrambenih proizvoda ovom vrstom kukca moţe se kontrolirati insekticidima. U ovom je radu istraţen mogući repelentni uĉinak triju široko korištenih insekticida na odrasle jedinke kestenjastog brašnara T. castaneum (Herbst). Repelencija je mjerena koristeći metodu prostorne preferencije (eng. area preference method) koju je prvi opisao McDonald 1970. godine. Metoda podrazumijeva utvrĊivanje repelentnog uĉinka koristeći filter papir podijeljen na dva dijela. S obzirom da ovakvo izlaganje kukaca na filter papiru slabo nalikuje stvarnom izlaganju u skladištima, korištena je i modificirana metoda u kojoj je korišteno brašno kao supstrat. Znaĉajna repelentna aktivnost utvrĊena je samo za deltametrin i to primjenom modificirane metode. Rezultati su pokazali da je repelentni uĉinak ovisan o metodi izlaganja, odnosno korštenju brašna kao supstrata

Tribolium castaneum (Herbst), the red flour beetle, is one of the major pests of cereal grains and their products. Infestation of food products with T. castaneum can be controlled with the usage of insecticides. In the present study, repellency of three widely used insecticides on adult red flour beetles was assessed using the area preference method (McDonald 1970). The method involves determining a repellent effect using filter paper divided into two parts. Since the conditions of exposure (filter paper surface as exposure substrate) in original method are quite different compared to the exposure carried out in stored-product protection, in modified method flour was used as an exposure substrate. The repellency of investigated insecticides was recorded only in case of exposure to deltamethrin using flour as a substrate, whereas using the filter paper surface (original method) repellency was not obtained. The results showed repellency was dependent on the exposure method, i.e. substrate that was used.
