Abstract
Tolerancija na sušu jedna je od najčešće istraživanih značajki s obzirom na globalni problem nedostatka vode. U ovom radu cilj je bio utvrditi pri kojoj najnižoj vrijednosti relativnog sadržaja vode u listu (RWC) je ponovnim usvajanjem vode moguć oporavak fizioloških i biokemijskih procesa, s posebnim naglaskom na fotosintetski aparat. Ječam (Hordeum vulgareL.) je uzgajan deset dana u uzgojnoj komori i potom izložen suši u trajanju od 7 do 10 dana,ovisno o eksperimentu, nakon čega je uslijedio oporavak rehidracijom tijekom četiri dana.Rezultati mjerenja fluorescencije klorofila a pokazali su da je kritična točka za mogućnost oporavka fotosintetskih procesa rehidracijom osmi dan suše, odnosno RWC od 21 %. Indeksfotosintetske učinkovitosti (PIABS) na kraju perioda rehidracije porastao je do kontrolnih vrijednosti što je ukazalo na potpuni oporavak fotosintetskog aparata. Unatoč tome što se ostali mjereni parametri (RWC, razina lipidne peroksidacije i sadržaj slobodnog prolina) nisu u potpunosti izjednačili s kontrolama pokazana je visoka tendencija ka ponovnom uspostavljanju homeostaze koja je prethodno bila narušena snažnom sušom

Drought tolerance is one of the most studied features considering the global problem of water deficit. The main goal of this study was to determine the lowest value of relative water content in leaf (RWC) in which re-watering might recover physiological and biochemical processes, with particular emphasis on the photosynthetic apparatus. Barley seedlings (Hordeumvulgare L.) were cultivated in the growth chamber for ten days and then subjected to drought. The drought lasted from 7 to 10 days, depending on the experiment, after which the plants were re-watered daily for four days. The results of chlorophyll a fluorescence measurements showed that the critical point for photosynthesis recovery is the eighth day of drought or RWC of 21%,respectively. At the end of the rehydration, increased performance index (PIABS) reached the valueas in control and thus pointed to a full recovery of the photosynthetic apparatus. Despite the fact that the other measured parameters (RWC, the level of lipid peroxidation and free proline content)were not fully equalized with the controls, observed results indicated a high tendency for the re-establishment of homeostasis, previously disrupted by severe drought.
