Abstract
Stres ima velike posljedice na sva živa bića. Utječe, kako na pojedinu životinju, tako i na cijeli ekološki sustav, kojeg je ona sastavni dio. Kako bi se što bolje shvatio utjecaj stresa na životinje i ekološke sustave, važno je otkriti mehanizme pomoću kojih one reagiraju na stresne podražaje. Razumjevanjem ovih mehanizama moguće je pravovremeno otkriti prisutnost različitih stresora. U ovom radu pobliže je opisan utjecaj stresa na životinje, mehanizmi koje su razvile kako bi se nosile sa stresom, te posljedice koje stres na njih ostavlja. U opisu je obuhvaćen bihevioristički i neuroendokrini odgovor na stres, utjecaj stresa na trenutno tjelesno stanje kao i trajne posljedice izlaganja stresu. Također opisane su vrste i utjecaj različitih stresora na pojedine ekološke sustave, načini na koje se ekološki sustav pokušava oduprijeti njihovom utjecaju, kao i promjene koje stres uzrokuje u ekološkom sustavu.

Stress has severe consequences on all living beings. It affects a single animal as well as a complete ecosystem. In order to better understand the effects of stress on animals and ecosystems, it is of key importance to discover mechanisms by which they react to stress. Understanding these mechanisms enables timely detection of different types of stressors. In the present thesis, effect of stress on animals, mechanisms of coping with stress, as well as remaining consequences of stress exposure are descibed. The present thesis involves bihevioral and neuroendocrine responses to stress, effects of stress on current physical condition, and permanent consequences of stress exposure. In addition, different types of stressors and their effect on ecosystems, coping mechanisms of ecosystems as well as changes that stress produces in ecosystem are also described.
