Abstract

Over a period of time from 3rd July to 7th July 2012. a research was conducted on the impact of repellents on horseflies (Tabanidae) on the outskirts of the Nature Park Kopački rit. Influence on the results of sampling of repellents on horseflies was investigated using five modified Manitoba trap using 1-octen-3-ol as attractant and lavender, peppermint, citronella grass and litsea essential oil as repellents After processing the sampled 1363 individuals, the data showed a total of 13 species grouped in five genera.: Chrysops, Atylotus, Hybomitra,Tabanus i Haematopota. Three most abundant species were: Tabanus bromius, Tabanustergestinus i Haematopota pluvialis. A Mediterranean species Atylotus flavoguttatus was sampled and this study represents the second report of this species in the Croatian part of Baranja. The most effective repellents proved are essential oil of lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) with 109 sampled individuals who form 7,97% of the sampled individuals.Essential oil Litsea (Litsea citrata) shows the weakest repellent properties of the 432 sampled individuals, which makes 31,69% of the sampled individuals.
