Media has the power to reach a large number of people, therefore it is extremely important for the media to control the content and information they provide to their audience. Also, the media should pay attention to the messages they send to their audience, mostly when it comes to national, racial, religious, sexual or other types of inequality. The same applies to the media relationship towards women who often have a stereotypical role of a mother, housewife or host of the TV show. According to numerous researches, they have less media space compared to men. The aim of the paper is to research how women are presented in the media, more precisely, in the contents of three televisions, Croatian Radio Television, RTL and NOVA TV. The research was conducted in the period from 18 to 24 February 2019 on these three televisions using a quantitative method of content analysis. The analysis will try to find answers to the following questions (1) whether women have equal status as men when it comes to managing and editing news on these televisions and (2) do women participate equally as men in talk shows as experts. In addition, the paper will attempt to establish two hypotheses: (1) men often dominate in the media space and (2) women are more frequent in the media when it comes to news and „light“ content themes while men are in charge when it comes to „serious“ news and expert-needed topics.
